Is URSA by Reflectair safe?

Upper air UVC air sterilization has been shown to be safe and the most effective technology for by IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) and has been used since the 1940s to prevent tuberculosis transmission. When installed correctly URSA28 will not expose room occupants to a level of UVC radiation higher than what is stipulated by the IEC guidelines.

What happens if stray light bounces off a surface down towards people?

When installing, ensure that there are no objects or reflective surfaces in the top 0,4m of the room that could cause stray reflections. Some blue light is also emitted by the tube so it is possible to see these reflections when the lights are turned off. Full installation instructions are provided in the user manual.

Does URSA by Reflectair produce ozone?

Ozone is produced below wavelengths of 200nm. URSA uses a 28W UVC lamp with a narrow spectrum centred at 254nm so will produce undetectable levels of ozone.

Does the light bulb get hot?

Like all light sources, UVC tubes convert electrical energy into light energy plus heat so there will be heat generated by the tube which will be dissipated. The tube will not overheat.

Can anyone change the bulb?

Yes replacing the tube is simple and is explained in the user manual.

How do you connect the power? Can the power run off an existing AC unit?

URSA28 comes in a 110V or 220V version and we will supply the plug required for your market. It plugs directly into the AC socket.

Do you need a professional to install or can anyone with knowledge of installing lights or working with electricity install?

The product is very simple to install and simply plugs in to the AC socket. Some countries require a professional installer for UVC products so please check the local regulations.

How effective is URSA by Reflectair compared to its competitors? How do you verify your claims?

We are currently in the process of performing a biological test with a SARS-Cov-2 surrogate bacteriophage. The kill rate of pathogens is directly proportional to the UVC intensity and so higher UVC output will correspond to a higher kill rate than has been demonstrated in similar tests performed with competitor products.
